How Daisy Baby Tinies differ from traditional baby massage & baby yoga class?

Daisy Baby Tinies is a weekly postnatal class for all those who are physically recovering from birth and their baby in the ‘fourth trimester’ to help you learn how to use baby massage and movement to aid calming, soothing and connection with your baby. Classes are suitable from approx. 6 weeks old to 5 months old (rolling over).

Daisy Baby Tinies compared to traditional baby massage class:

  • Traditional baby massage usually requires baby to lie on their back for long periods (often up to 1 hour) and is not respectful of 4th trimester needs (the need to be held, moved and the need for containment).
  • Traditional baby massage generally does not give Mum an opportunity to move as Mum is often static and demonstrating poor posture for a large chunk of the class.
  • Traditional baby massage can be over stimulating for some infants.
  • Traditional classes offer very little alternative for Mum – she’s either massaging or she isn’t.
  • Infant massage requires baby to be undressed – something they find difficult during the first 12 weeks.
  • Traditional classes do not utilise the benefits of white noise or the calming reflex.

And compared to traditional baby yoga:

  • Baby yoga can be over stimulating and many moves are not suitable for the first 12 weeks.
  • Less confident Mums can find some of the moves too challenging and preclude themselves from activities.
  • Again, baby yoga often relies on the need for baby to lay supine – something that is difficult in the 4th trimester.
  • Mums are often invited to enjoy movement too, but this can be challenging for Mums who have experienced a C-section or who do not feel physically confident in their body.

How do the Daisy Baby Tinies classes offer additional support?

  • Provides a forum for Mums to meet Mums and to seek mother-to-mother support.
  • Provides an environment sympathetic to baby’s needs in the 4th trimester and class is designed around their needs to be held, moved and ssshhhhh’d.
  • Continuity of care – a feeling of familiarity.
  • Opportunities for Mum to move, to feel confident in her body and to work core stability but in a gentle way (often using just breath work).
  • Opportunities for positive touch between Mum and Baby without the pressure of lengthy massage routines.
  • An opportunity for relaxation.
  • An environment designed to help Mums ease into understanding their baby.
  • Time to digest class activities – repetition gives Mums familiarity.

Hope to see you and your little one in class soon.

Little hello from your new local Daisy Teacher

Hello and welcome to the Daisy Foundation. I am your new local Daisy Teacher. I would like to tell you a bit more about myself and the reason why I decided to become a Daisy Teacher.

I live in Sheffield with my husband, our two beautiful children, a cat  and a dog.

Following my pregnancies, two very different births (natural and c-section) and pregnancy losses I have decided to become a perinatal educator to support expectant parents during pregnancy, birth and parenthood.  As I know first hand how challenging, anxious, uncertain this time can be and I would like to empower you and provide you all the information you need to make informed choices that are right for you and your baby.

I have attended Daisy Birthing and Baby classes in Lancashire with my first born. During my first pregnancy I did not know what to expect will happen during birth . Daisy provided me with all the information I needed for my confident birth. I have learnt that it is ok to question decisions that are made about you and your baby and it is also ok to decide that you want to follow your own motherly instinct and go with what  think is best for you and your baby. Daisy Baby classes were my weekly go to for a bit of sanity, they provided me with a peer support I really needed especially during the first few months of my motherhood. I have made great friends and felt empowered to breastfeed in public, which was absolutely petrifying to start with.

Unfortunately, last year during my second pregnancy I could not find any local Daisy Teachers in Sheffield. I was very disappointed as I really wanted to take my little boy to Daisy Baby classes and meet some new mummy friends in my local area. Therefore, I have decided to become a Daisy Teacher myself.

I cannot wait to meet you all and create our local Daisy community where we can support and empower each other.
